Pictured here in 1945 are 16-year-old Ed Asner (left in photo) with his father Morris David Asner (1877-1957) standing in front of the family-owned scrap metal yard, Asner Iron & Steel at 34 North James, Kansas City, Kansas. Established in 1903, Asner Iron & Steel is the oldest Jewish owned business in Greater Kansas City. Our beloved current congregant, Labe Asner, took the reins from his father and the company continues to thrive in its KCK original location operated by its founding family members.
In 1922, Morris Asner served as president of one of our forerunner organizations, Gomel Chesed (Good Works). Our current social hall, Asner Hall, is named after Morris and his wife, Elizabeth Asner (1885-1967).
Taken August 31, 2004, Ohev congregant Labe (left in photo) with his younger brother Ed Asner, the actor most recognized for his role as Lou Grant on both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off series, Lou Grant.
Labe continues to participate in congregation activities along with Buzzah and Lisa Feingold (Labe and Gloria Asner’s daughter).
