Worship

In ruach, celebration and worship, Ohev blends past and present – tradition and change – as the hub of Conservative Judaism near the city core, Ohev offers egalitarian worship, musical Kabbalat Shabbat and stimulating adult education.  We are members of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and affiliated with the following organizations:

  • Heartland Center for Jewish Outreach
  • Kansas City United Synagogue Youth
  • The Jewish Theological Seminary of America
  • The Rabbinical Association of Greater Kansas City

We pattern our weekly Torah reading service after the triennial Torah reading cycle similar to the one used in ancient Israel during the rabbinic period. In this system, the traditional parashiot are each divided into three shorter segments, and the whole Torah is completed once every three years.  Our worship is jointly led by the rabbinical staff and lay leadership.  Congregants are encouraged to lead Torah and Haftorah, chant Musaf as well as be honored with aliyot.

Ohev is proud to hold weekday morning minyanim Sunday through Friday.  Since 1925, minyaneers gather on Sunday morning following worship for Breakfast Club.  A newer custom is for Friday minyaneers to share a restaurant breakfast together after Friday morning prayer.

Sunday 9:30 a.m. followed by Breakfast Club at 10:00 a.m.

Monday – Thursday 7:00 am
Friday 6:45 am
