Frances Glazer Sternberg, Ph.D., Lecturer, Jewish Studies at KU is teaching a class called Modern Jewish History on the Edwards Campus beginning January 18, 2017. It ends May 3, 2017.
About the Class
This course explores the complex encounter between Judaism and modernity by examining the challenges to Jewish life and thought, community and culture, self-understanding and survival, from the 17th century to the 20th century. It looks at religious, cultural, and intellectual expression, as well as political movements, in the context of social, economic, and demographic change in Jewish communities in Western, Central and Eastern Europe, the United States, and Israel. It also considers the impact of antisemitism and the Holocaust.
Time and Location
The class begins Wednesday, January 18, 2017. It ends Wednesday, May 3, 2017. It meets on Wednesday evenings, 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
