Cafe Ohev: Elias Lowland, Reflections on an Archaeological Dig In Israel
In this Café Ohev, Elias Lowland will discuss his experience volunteering on an archaeological dig in Israel for three weeks in July of 2017. Please join us on Sunday, March 4th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
Elias was a member of the group from KU’s Jewish Studies department, which joined with several other universities; the group of student volunteers and faculty from Israel, the U.S. the UK, and Australia, totaled about 160 people. Elias was the only high school student on the trip. He worked an eight-hour day digging, cleaning, hauling, and excavating, five days a week. He learned techniques of field archaeology and basic tenets of archaeological science. He took part in field trips and traveled to Jerusalem over two weekends, roaming the city on his own, exploring.
