Order your Lulav & Etrog

This year consider a hands-on Sukkot experience by ordering your own Lulav and Etrog Set. Bring the fragrant smell of the citron and lulav palm, myrtle and willow fronds into your own home. The mitzvah can be performed in your home or in the synagogue and instruction is readily available.

The Significance of the Lulav and Etrog

The mitzvah of regarding the Lulav and Etrog is found in the Torah. After discussing the festival of Sukkot, specific instructions for how to celebrate the holiday are given. Leviticus 23:40 instructs: “On the first day you shall take the product of hadar trees, branches of palm trees, coughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before Adonai your God seven days.”

The four species, of which the lulav (palm branch) is the most prominent, are a symbolic expression of our rejoicing over the change from life in the wilderness to life in a country replete with fruit trees and rivers. These particular four species: lulav, etrog, hadassim (myrtle) and aravot (willow) were plentiful in Eretz Yisrael, and were readily obtainable by everybody.
