Ohev Sholom Sisterhood is a place where women discover, develop and deepen their knowledge, talents, commitment and friendships.
Tzedakah: making a difference by providing funds for synagogue needs, including education and kitchen equipment.
Community: exchanging ideas, skills and knowledge. Sisterhood presents quality programming for members and our community – listening, laughing and learning together.
Awareness: meeting to study and discuss issues which make a difference in our lives as Jews.
We are affiliated with the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism. We support and unite with Women’s League in the understanding and perpetuation of Conservative/Masorti Judaism.
We invite you to become a part of Ohev Sholom Sisterhood. Each new member strengthens our community of women. Our members span a wide range of interests, ages and backgrounds. Our programs are designed to enhance your personal growth, Jewish involvement, and feeling of community. We welcome your involvement and hope you will join us. Sisterhood Ongoing Programs
We have a number of activities and programs which are supported on a daily, weekly and monthly basis by our Sisterhood members. For more information, please contact us. We would love to see you!
Sisterhood Handmade Hamantashen
Every year, the Sisterhood of Congregation Ohev Sholom bakes hundreds of hamantashen in preparation for Purim. We have several choices of flavors: apple, apricot, cherry, poppy seed, and prune.
Ohev Sholom Sisterhood also mails out Mishloah Manot Gift Bags with our homemade hamantashen and other treats to the out-of-town college kids of our regular members as well as our home-bound members and our new members. Read more about Hamantashen.
A Mazel Gram is a birthday or anniversary greeting sent by Sisterhood to an Ohev Sholom friend or family member on your behalf. Read more about Mazel Grams.
Congregation Ohev Sholom Sisterhood is proud to host the community’s only annual Mahjong tournament. Held in Asner Hall, it features a continental breakfast, 3 rounds of play (12 games total), a gourmet brunch, a decadent dessert bar and door prizes galore!
Once a quarter, we hold a matinee showing at Village Shalom. It is open to the public as well. We show a film that has a Jewish theme, and is well-reviewed in the Jewish Film community. It is followed by a lively discussion.
You can a leaf on our Simcha Tree to honor someone you know or acknowledge a special occasion such as an anniversary, milestone birthday or birth of a child or grandchild. The Simcha Tree is located adjacent to the entry of our Rabbi Miller Sanctuary. Read more about the Simcha Tree.
Once a year, we gather for our Shabbat Retreat and enjoy a special day together to pray, study, relax with friends, take a walk, and celebrate the beginning and end of Shabbat.
Talmud Torah Cards
Talmud Torah Cards are a lovely way to congratulate a friend, send a note of sympathy, or send a message for any other occasion and contribute to Sisterhood at the same time. The cost is $5 per card, so just call our Talmud Torah Chairs and they will write, address, stamp, and mail the card for you. Or, if you prefer, you can purchase one or more cards and write your own personal notes before mailing.
